The Light Collection celebrates porcelain’s natural translucency. Inspired by light & windows, the cups in this series quietly offer the user a unique perspective inspired by a kaleidoscope.

The forms are reminiscent of the Corelle glass dinnerware forms that I grew up with in our kitchen. Pierced holes filled with glaze reference the Chinese Linglong porcelain of the Ming & Qing Dynasties and Iranian Fritware. Translucent glaze inlay contrasts with matte polished porcelain. Plaster molds are handmade from found mass produced forms that are subtly altered for desired characteristics. The ware is slip cast porcelain fired in cone 6 oxidation and is microwave and dishwasher safe. Only the interior is glazed with a glossy glaze while the matte porcelain exterior is sanded to a smooth, silky surface. Decoration is minimal so the focus can be on the food, the presentation of it, and the beauty of porcelain. This tableware is meant to be used on a daily basis and to be affordable. It is designed to easily integrate into anyone’s existing collection of glasses and dishes. Subtle differences and slight variations from piece to piece are to be expected and enjoyed.
